Default 680 Questions

I got a few questions about my 680. 1 - How popular is the 680, I don't see too many. 2 - Can someone post a pic of what the 680 is suppose to look like. I'm repainting it the right way, and 3 - What would be the biggest deck the 680 could handle? I was thinking about trading my 38" deck I just restored for a bigger one. Thanks.

The model 680 is a CCC/MTD product built '82-84.. Sister models include the 1282 (red) and subsequent model 1210. It should have a 12HP Kohler (K301AQS) in it.

CCC offered a 44C mower deck (190-358-100) as an option.

The 680 and 1282 are the same tractor painted different colors. The biggest deck it came with is a 50". It should have a 6 pad seat, hood and side panels white and the frame and fender pan in yellow. I think the dash tower is black but I'm not 100% sure on that. The hood decal is typical for that series, black with a blue stripe.

Thanks guys. And another thing, what kind of ignition does it have. I watched a video online and the dude in the video had a 1050 wtih the 10 hp magnum, no points, and it had the little galvanizted box with wires bolted to the dash tower behind the left side panel. He said that the box was for the electronic ignition, but mine has points and that box. I'm confused. Is he wrong about what he said?

Same motor as in a 1250.

The dash tower would likely be yellow if the serial number is less than 720,000.

Once you have one they will be allover the place! Below are a few pics of the one I have, I really need to update them. It has a 50" deck 12hp w/points. The engine has a charge coil and conventional starter vs.S/G. I think the BOX your looking at might be for the charging system, or maybe an electronic ignition conversion. I don't recall that on mine. I am laid up right now, I'll try to get a better pic of that area next week. The one I have was pretty whipped by the PO's. But I like the 82 series tractors and look forward to putting mine to good use.

Thats a good looking 680 CHWNY. It should clean up real nice. A 50 inch deck would be nice, even a 44c deck, 38 is a little too small for mowing off the feilds at our farm, thats why i want a bigger deck.
P.S what year is your 680, mine is an '84.

Kris, Mine is 1982. I had lots of issues when I first got mine, that's what you get for $150.(search 680 project, go back a few pages). I found the hydro issue was from the fluid muck clogging the pickup tube also the gasket between the pump halfs is bad. I found a complete rear from a 682 to swap out. The electrical problem is the PTO sw. the melted connector was rust buildup on the key sw. I have many things planned for this tractor, almost done collecting pieces/parts. Hope to start fabricating soon.

I got mine for free. The PO said that it was losing power. Got it home, my dad took it for a ride and in five min he came back and said that the timing was off. Set the timeing and now it runs like a champ. I've put a little over $300 in it since i got it, ag tires, filters, fluid, things like that. I had problem with my hydro too. In the cold weather it wouldn't move, so i changed the fluid and the filter and I can't get it to stop going. The neighbor is jealous cause he has a Husquavarna that looks like it was built by AYP. He liked how last winter i was idleing and pushing a good amount of snow. Another neighbor hates my tractor because "it's too old", he has implied through conversation.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
