Well.....Myron will have to supply an answer.

There are several oddities to the IH Kind Code List. This is one. I have made inquiries about these. but have never received an answer.

But I do know, that there was NEVER any 682's with Gear Drive.

Walter:

1) If I told you the the factory code for a 682 was 0592 was for a Cub Cadet Model 682, then I gave you some bad info. That is not correct.

2) I do not recall your telling me that your tractor was a gear drive.

3) Roland is correct....there was never a Model 682 with a gear drive from the factory.

(4) The factory code for a Cub Cadet Model 582 is 0592.

(5) Ya got a Model 582. It originally came OEM with a 16 hp B&S-402417 Engine with a 0680-01 Specification number (the 582Special uses the same engine).

Myron:

What Walter is talking about is in the published IH Kind Code.

It lists....

205 0592 = 682 w/gd (where it is assumed that "gd" means gear drive)
205 0593 = 682 w/hydraulics (We know there was no such animal either)

There are a bunch of abbreviations and oddities in the list and I have not found an answer to these things.

Apparently no one here has ever seen or heard of a typographical error....That list is incorrect as published!

All...please!! : There were no 682's with a gear drive (GD)

IH Factory code 592 was allocated to the gear drive Model 582 and IH Factory code 596 was allocated to the gear drive 582S.

Please correct your lists. I've got that same list & that is what I had to do when I realized something wasn't right with that Model & Code...did some research and realized that a simple typo had to be the problem.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
