Default M18 from 80's Craftsman GT6000?

This M18 has a bad electric clutch but runs great with a new carb rebuild. I need to know if the Craftsman M18 from 80's GT6000 will work for a KT17 swap in a 682.

I believe that craftsman engine is a vertical crank engine. It can be converted but it would take quite a bit of machining n the crank to make it compatible.

The M18 is horizontal. The MV18 is vertical. This specific Craftsman GT6000 engine is a horizontal M18.

I am going to call and get the spec number number and also the shaft size. I already read about the wiring differences with the ignition. So if it's a 1 1/8" shaft, I think I'll get it... unless anyone has any other info That I am not thinking of?

Default m18

Hello, I put one in my 582. The crank was 1x 3/916. Would you beleive the 1" pto off the briggs slid right on and bolted up? The holes were in the block and threaded but not used. I needed a 3/4" spacer to fill in the extra cranhshaft under the bolt. The motor was out of an Ayp that used a pto spaced away from the block held in place by a bracket. If you need to use a 1/18 pto Sam Mac has a way to bush that up and work. Mike, ps Hi Vince, going to an auction to watch a 1/2 scale baker steam engine sell today, maybe, it has a reserve.

Don't let a 1" PTO shaft bother you McMaster sells a 1" ID X 1.125" OD bushing and a keyway that you can use to bush the shaft to fit the 1.125" PTO bore part #'s 6381K18 and 98491A137 about $20.00 all you have to do is cut it to length and slot it for the key

I was going to try, it was spaced out 3/4" from the block. I don't know if it would have been out to far after mounting the engine. It had a bigger pulley witch ran a 1/2" belt but a parts disc. said could also run a 5/8" belt. I saw a guy on another forum try one and had an alightment problem with belts through the idler pulleys. Once i took it off and put the btiggs one on i never tried it. The steam engine did not sell, reserve was to high, had to have a steam licence to bid witch was his idea not to be sued if someone blew it up. My best friend and old neighbor was killed on the one that blew up in Medina and killed 5 and hurt many others, long sad story. Mike

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
