This thing has never went into 2nd or 3rd. I bought it that way. Now I'm finally getting around to messing with it and I've got the shifter off and everything looks fine inside the gearbox. I got to prying on the gears and got it to go into 2nd but its kinda tight. It won't go into 3rd at all. I can't see anything that's keepin it from going. The shifter fork is loose, the shift rail moves back and forth. The gears them self will not slide forward to engage 3rd gear. Any of you experts out there have any experience with this before? I'd appreciate any

Put it in neutral and slowly turn inspect each gear for broken teeth in both directions. Be careful with the forks they can break.

Yeah I'm not goin too crazy with the pry bar. Looks like there is a tooth missing off 3rd and 2 gone off 2nd on the lower shaft. It should still be able to slide the gears and engage

It depends on where the missing pieces are.

Just small teeth off the gears. I'd assume they're in the bottom of the case. Most transmissions have a magnet in the bottom, I don't know if these do or not. There must be something on the input shaft itself keeping the gears from sliding forward.

Yeah that's what I figured I said heck with it and put it back together. It's still going into 2nd so that's better than only having 1st
|

If you do pull it apart...pull the slider shaft out of the tranny and clean it up very well. It sounds like to me that you either have rust or hard sludge formed on the slider shaft in front of the 2nd/3rd slider gear...OR you have dirt or rust in one side of the shifting fork rail on the transmission casting. |

once it has broken teeth those parts continue to get caught and keep breaking parts I had a rear in here that had no 2nd gear teeth only a few on 3rd and half of 1st I think they ran it till it quit

I appreciate all your guys opinions. I know to fix it all right it's gonna need to come apart. I just don't see what it is. No rust or sludge or anything that I can see. I unbolted the shift fork and the rail slides forward and back thru both detents like it should. I dunno it's put back together for now just won't go into 3 rd. I'll run it like that for now. There's already a few teeth chipped off so it can't hurt it any worse...
