I'm thinking the next thing to check is the points, clean and check the gap. Welcome to OCC!

What motor does your 982 have? Is it the original? Or has it been replaced? This will make a difference because the original would have had points, and a replacement engine, if replaced in the last 10 yrs, would have electronic ignition.

if your 982 has a onan engine the intake manifold is 2 piece and after while the calk or whatever they put in there goes out and that gives it a lean burn or next thing we had was a bad coil

Like Ray said, what ever they use to seal the carb riser to the manifold craps out and leaks air into the engine and causes a lean condition. As you can see you cannot tell by looking at the carb the seal is bad, the carb is not even loose.

That's actually not what ray was talking about. He is referring to the split intake manifold. The two halves will leak.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
