Im not to savy on these older engines lol.
I have a 1970 107 Engine code K241A Ill give ya run down whats going on. Hard to start. If i spray a little shot of fluid in spark plug hole it starts right up and idles. Fuel delivery is what I thought to. I cleaned the petcock out and the tank out so now I have a free flow of fuel. I has took carb apart and cleaned it out. The needle looks to be free of defects, and the float has no holes in it and its sitting parallel like it should. So its getting fuel. The 2 adjusting idle screws are set as follows. hi idle screw turned out 2 turns, lo idle screw is out 1 turn. So its getting fuel. Now the electrical. Im getting white/bluish spark at the plug. So I checked the breaker points to see if/how it can be adjusted. I Google but didnt see anything. All i know its supposed to be set to .020 inch. They dont look wore out. Just signs of use. While running it down the street a bit it ran decent dont feel like its wants to accept full throttle. coming back to the shop about half throttle it backfired threw the exhaust and died. I cranked it for a bit then started up. |

Breaker Gap is a "suggestion" at .020". Try .016, .017, .018 to see if the engine runs smoother.

But what I'm not understanding is the How. Do I put the gauges between the block and breaker points mount? I seen something about another screw with a V shape I see that but I'm lost on something so simple. lol

That pin is what rides on the lobe of the cam shaft to open and close your points and depending on how wore down it becomes from moving in and out at the speed your engine is running determines the gap of your points. If it does not move freely you need to clean it till it does. Mine is getting wore and I have to set my points at .024 to be timed right. Once you get the rod moving free try static timing you engine. There is directions on this forum for that.

Thanks for that info. The rods does move I had it out. I'm just not sure how much it moves out and in from riding the lobe.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
