I was just wondering if it would be a major job to switch out a NF trans to a WF trans. Both would be direct drive. I'm just interested in getting the braking power of the disc brakes on a WF trans on to a NF. From what I have read here someone asked about going the other way and folks replied that the trans would bolt up just fine. I'd just like some first hand experience from someone that has given this a shot.

How did you handle the brake linkage ? Did you just swap the two or did you have to build something special?

It will bolt right in with no mods, both rearends use the same setup running from the brake pedal to the rearend.

![]() Since I'm putting a rear with disc breaks on a 73 that uses internal brakes I can just switch out the linkage from the pedal to the calipers? It's not that I'm not paying attention to your comments so please don't think I'm being rude but I'm just making sure. I'm asking this because I just didn't think the linkage for the disc brakes would fit inside the NF because it is wider then the single linkage going to the back of the internal brake system. Thank you again for the replies on this! I have to grab myself a WF that's going out of business and part it out for some goodies

There is a difference, the parts lookup will show you, but as far as I can remember, the brake rod is longer, and the position of the brake arm rockshaft is different. Need to take some pics...

Ah! I totally didn't realize that NF's had a disc setup on the later versions. Perfect
I'll do some research either way but that would make the most sense to me.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
