Default New cub

Hello everyone, hope all is well. I picked up another cub last weekend for $28.00. I just got it running today and I need to get a few items for it. Only thing is that I'm not quite sure what year it is. If someone could fill me in on how to figure out the year that'd be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Here is the serial number. I'm new to this site so I apologize if my posts aren't the greatest. Still trying to figure all this out.

724375 looks like the serial #. There is a chart somewhere to cross reference. I can't remember but someone here will have it I imagine.

it is either an late 1983 or early 1984.

$28.00 is a good price, does it have a cast iron rear end?

28 bucks -nice job. Not $25, not $30, must have been a heckuva negotiation.

Thanks for the reply. I work at a local scrap yard and we usually get a few Cubs a year come through so I was able to buy it for what my boss paid for it. I saw this one and I really just wanted it for the deck for my 82 682, but I tore down the carb and cleaned it up and got it running and it purrs like a kitten, now I wanna fix it up. It has a aluminum rear end. Why do you ask? I'm new to the cub family so my knowledge about them isn't that good.

That is a killer deal. I would need a bigger shop if I worked at a scrap yard. I would need a bigger shop if there was a good one near.

The early MTD made Cubs had left over cast rears from IH. That was why Lew asked about the rear.

The triple C emblem on the grille is worth what you paid for it. Congrats on a sweet deal. My book shows it as a late 1983.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
