Default New here..from Minnesota, need help with my 1020

I have a Cub Cadet 1020. I'm in Minnesota, land of 10,000 lakes.

I bought this cub 4 years ago for $150. After 2 years, i had to rebuild the 10hp B&S engine due to a broken piston rod.

Last year the belt that goes from the engine snapped, i had to replace that. Within a few hours it went again. Found out the double drive pulley was locked up, bad bearings. Another $168 into it this spring...and now im having this issue.

The issue i am having, is the blades won't stay engaged. When i pull the lever back to engage the deck, it moves the tension pulley to allow the belt to spin those drive pulley for the deck, but it won't stay engaged...i have to sit there and keep pulling and holding it back to get it to stay engaged and cutting the grass.

I don't know what the issue is.

serial number is 196126
Model 131210100

New double pulley and belt.

The idler PTO puller i believe its called. This wont stay tight, the lever wont stay, i have to keep pulling and holding the lever back to keep this on the belt.

See item #31.

Thanks will do. I wasn't sure where the best place to put it would be.

Hello!

I live in Minnesota as well. There aren't too many Cub Cadets around here, although they occasionally show up.

Where are you located? I am in Northwest MN, Moorhead is the city.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
