Default Brush hog

I have two questions. One I just purchased L42 Cub Cadet brush hog. The front seal started leaking , the oil in the gearbox is white. Not sure if it's condensation or water what type of oil is used in the gearbox? The second question is the three point Lift will barely raise the brush hog even at wide open throttle. Is there an adjustment for the pressure to raise the brush hog higher?

The actual model for the L42 rear mower is... 190-349-100

Since you make no mention of the tractor this mower is mounted to, I am going to "assume" it is a Cub Cadet Hydro model. With that in mind, first thing I would do is two fold. (A) Change the Hydro Filter, and then (B) check (top off) or install new Hydro Fluid in the system.

mfeldmann, according to my L42 owner's manual (190-349-100) "Add EP80W-90 gear oil (Cub Cadet part no. 737-3033 recommended) until it is level with the check plug hole on the side of the gearbox. Gearbox capacity is 30 ounces.
If what you have is white, then it most probably has water mixed in with it. I would think your standard EP80W-90 gear oil would work fine.

Thank you both for replying so quickly. The tractor is a 1772 diesel. I have an adapter made that picks up the front of these fully loaded Cub Cadet with ease. When I first got the brush- hog it picked it up fine. The hydro fluid has been changed with a new Cub Cadet filter. I have a brenley 12 inch plow the tractor picks it up fine. Don't know why it picked up the brush hog at first now it won't. I've heard of checking the pressure at the hydro pump and shimming it. Anyone ever hear about that.

The 1772 used the Sundstrand U15 Hydo Pump. The same used in all IH built tractors. You can look through any (IH built) Cub Cadet Service Manual that uses the Sundstrand Hydro and it explains the check out, Pressure Testing, and procedure to increase pressure (if needed).

IE... 1772 Service Manual

If it suddenly stopped picking up the mower, it likely just needs a fluid and filter change. Don't mess with checking pressures until you've done that.

You mentioned you had an owner's manual for the brush hog. Is it on a PDF file?

No it is not PDF yet. I can try to do over the next day or two. When it is maybe Roland can put it in the library if it isn't there yet.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
