All I needed to do was clean the points and she fired right up. Now, I only have two problems, she leaks gas (I need to rebuild the carb) and I REALLY need a muffler. It just has about a 3 inch pipe coming straight out of the head, and it's really loud. Now, where is the best place to get a muffler? I need a 1 1/4 inch connection. Also, where can I get a carb rebuild kit?

Hi Edmonds,
Just went through the same steps with my 126 regarding the points and carb. I didn't get a kit though. Are you positive you need a kit? Have you tried cleaning it, replacing fuel lines, and then a reassemble? Mine was leaking a bit but a quick soak (bout 45 minutes) in a gallon can of carb cleaner and new lines and then a reassemble was all it took to stop my problem. Best of luck sir. Those carbs are pretty simple compared to others ive worked with. Very easy to clean. |

If you take the carb apart, you need a kit to put it back together. Don't reuse old gaskets and things. I get my carb kits from Amazon. They are cheap and I have them in-hand in 1-2 days.

True. I'm just a bit cheap at times. And since it didn't leak when I put it back together I just left it that way. However I followed the link and I'll probably be ordering a kit since they are only about 9 bucks. Also noticed you can get a set of points on there for about 10 bucks. Not bad. Is it worth changing out the points if they are working fine?

That's pretty funny because as I was typing that last post out, that is the EXACT quote that came to my mind. I think I'll hold off for now.

I use Amazon for a lot of my stuff. Most local places don’t stock parts for these old machines and I’d have to end up waiting for it anyway. Plus I’d have to go back out to the store to pick it up. About the only things I go to the store for are general maintenance items (filters, plugs, oil, etc).
And like what was already stated, points don’t need replaced unless they wear to the point you cannot get the proper gap from them. 9 times out of 10 you can file them and keep on going.

I bought the rebuild kit off Amazon, now where can I get a good muffler for an affordable price? I would prefer under $25 because I'm cheap.

You get what you pay for. Search the net, I'm sure someone sells a cheap muffler.
Oh.... and you HAD to be getting 12V to the points if all you did was clean them and it fixed it. You said over and over in the other thread you didn't..... but you had to be. |

I never was able to measure the volts going into the point, so I guess I did. You were right. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
