Default Local find 123 (pix)

I got this a couple weekends ago. It's a strong running 123, with the narrow wheels. I just swapped the wheels out with another set with tires that will hold air (I think). While I'm not at all sure the narrow tires/wheels are original to this tractor , I sure wish I could find another set.

It's got a Walbro on it but it runs so well I'm not going to fix it until it's broken.

You can see the area where I cleaned up the hood and the 123 logo with some fine rubbing compound and 30 seconds of cleaning. I love mutts!

Those old narrow tires never saw much use. Sadly they DID see much sun. One actually holds air. If you know where to find a serviceable set please let me know. Which do you like on this old tractor?

I need to fix the brakes/return spring and clean it up some and do some general maint, but this thing is a good strong runner for $200!

I pretty sure there is a set of those tires here, but they are in worse shape than yours. If yours look OK why not just put in a set of tubes? Should run a long time if you aren't pulling (plowing). Is there a dealer decal on that machine?

Hi John,
I'd do that but one has a chunk missing about the size of my thumb that I can see through... its beyond salvage. One MIGHT be ok with tubes if I could get it off the bead without tearing what's there.

Kind of like the retro look of the narrows.

I'm thinking you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a set. Any pullers down your way?

Really nice looking 123,it is my favorite narrow frame. I agree would look great with the right tires. Hard to beat a good runner for 200! ,good luck with it and have fun.

I passed up a 102 with deck (also running) for the same price from the same guy. Turns out he's only about 5 miles from home. The 102 got gone that same afternoon .

Then again, I've got too many cubs . Can I say "too many cubs" here?

Miller Tire had Firestone reproduce those tires. You can get a brand new set.

Thank you Jon. That would double my investment but ya gotta pay to play I suppose.

I may well do that if I cant round some up locally-ish.

That is indeed the tire!

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
