Default Cub Cadet Compression

I inherited a Cub Cadet from my great aunt. It hasn't been ran in 4-5 years. I'm currently going through the machine cleaning everything up. My biggest issue is there's to much compression. Without the spark plugs in it will turn over great. With them in it don't want to turn over. I seen a video saying there may be a area to peek and see if the ACR springs may be broke/missing. I'm not sure where I need to be looking. The engine is a Kohler KT17S

I'll try to upload a picture to see if there is where I need to be looking. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

There is no compression release on opposed twins. you need to run a load test on your battery, not test your engine compression.
Also check that your battery cables are clean & tight.
If all those are good then check your solenoid & starter terminals to see they are clean and tight.
And it would also be good to mention what you are working on besides that it
came from yer great aunt that has no relevance to your problem .

Welcome to the site. X2 on connections, especially the ground. Make sure the wirings in good shape and the battery load tests good.

I've drained all the oil and added fresh oil
I have the carburetor off now to clean it up.
Cleaned out the gas tank.

I'll clean up all the connections later tonight and see if there's any change. I've been using my battery charger with 12 volt start or hooking jumper cables up to try and get it going since I know the battery is for sure bad.

I had a KT that turned out the gear end bushing of the starter was shot that acted the same way. Also if the point gap is excessive it could be trying to fire too early. Just more to check if it’s not the battery or cables.

I'll see if my boss will let me pull the starter on the cub cadet we have at work to see if that's the issue. I have noticed the gear does get stuck in the flywheel. I've hit it with a air hose and used wd 40 and still gets stuck. Do you happen to know what the point gap would be?

I forgot to mention I also cleaned the points.

Last night I cleaned all the connections up and checked the wires everything looks good.

Got a battery and it's still turning over very slow.

I have all the tins off right now. I did noticed a small amount of insulation on the starter plate I believe. I took a air hose to it and blew the motor down. I'm almost tempted to pull the motor for a better inspection.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
