Had to use the choke to start in 68 degree whether

This afternoon my brand new [2 week old] xti LT50 did not want to start, and I had to use the choke. It was in the high 60s temperature-wise, although it did get down to 40 or lower overnight last night. Last started it and mowed 12 days ago. Sounds like I should be a bit concerned? Or no?

Sounds to me like the choke was doing what chokes are supposed to do.

Yes, it definitely did, but my concern isn't that the choke did its job, my concern is more regarding why the choke would need to be used on a 2 week old mower in almost 70 weather in the first place. I'll keep my eye on it for now, hopefully it won't be a regular thing.

Most of my equipment will only cold start on the choke or crank for about thirty seconds without choking it. This is Kawasaki, kubota, kohler, Briggs and vanguard. I’ve got a couple of older vehicles that require choke as well! The only mowing equipment I have that will cold start regularly without choke is fuel injected - thank you vanguard.

I realize that we are not exactly talking about the same thing since
I own nothing under 30 years old in tractors but I use the choke
every time I start a machine even if it is 90 out.
Even in the world of brand new cars and trucks they always start
up with the mix to the rich side when starting cold.
It's pretty easy to over think things especially when they are new.
Don't worry about it and just enjoy your new ride. Have fun.

No. It would not concern me in the least.

I have a 2 month old XT2 with a Kawasaki and it always requires a little choke it to get it started, even in 90 degree weather. I've been running power equipment all my life and it seems perfectly normal to me.

If the engineers expected it to start without using choke, they would not have put a choke control on it.

I like your optimism, and I hope you are correct. It just trikes me funny because I almost never had to use the choke on my previous mower, which I had for 20 years, unless it had been sitting in the shed for the winter. But I guess, as another member pointed out, its easy to overthink things when its a brand new mower.

Good point about over thinking things when the mower is brand new. It was just odd to me since I almost never had to use the choke on my old mower, and now I'm using choke on my brand new one. But yeah.....I hope its turns out to be nothing.
