1970's Cub Cadet Model 800?

I been offered a very nice looking Cub Cadet model 800 that has been garage kept its entire life. It is a rather large tractor with a mowing deck and what I believe was a 8hp Kolher engine, the engine has low compression from a suspected burnt valve. I have tried to do some research on the net but I have turned up very little on the 800, I suppose because it was only built for a couple years. The website I was reading stated that the 800 is one of the rarest Cub Cadet tractors ever built. Anyone here know anything about the model 800 and if it is as rare as I have been lead to believe?

Sounds like you have been offered the holy grail of cub cadet tractors.Yes it is rare and I would grab it lickity split.

The 800 is from a series of Cub Cadets referred to as 'Quietlines'. Any/All of these machines are Garden Tractors...true, you can attach a mower deck and mow your yard, but they also can plow a garden, till the garden, cultivate the garden, run a snow thrower, clear your driveway with a front mounted snow blade/push dirt and stone with the same blade, and run several other implements. To buy a comperable model of GT in the modern world, you would have to spend at or above $5,000.

Sounds like I might want to call the feller back and see what he wants for the tractor. The only attachment he has is the mowing deck and it has only been used for mowing his yard, never been used to its true potential. It looked to be spotless and all the paint/decals are in top notch shape. If I end up buying it I will have to post some pictures.

Got one more question for anyone who can, or will, answer. What is a fair price on a Cub Cadet 800, that has low compression? I don't want to low ball the feller, well I should say I don't want to low ball him to bad. What if he comes back with a price of $100, $300, $500, $1000........ What is the cut off point where I say "That is just to much."

A lot depends on what the overall shape its in. Location has a lot to do with pricing as well. What options does it have other then the mowing deck? One of the reasons it was a rarer model is the fact it only had a 8hp while all the other models at the time had 10-16hp motors. If you've got a pic please post it that will help out with pricing but location effects pricing.

The man is suppose to talk to his father about a price and send me some pictures. The only attachment is the mower deck, the tractor has only been used as a mower. The paint looks very good, panels are straight, it has been kept clean and in a garage it`s entire life. I believe you get the idea on the condition. I did find out that the engine was checked out by a local shop and it does have low compression from a suspected valve problem. The tractor runs but is very low on power. The tractor is in south western Virginia.

I will agree that the engine could be a issue. All I know is the engine messed up last year and it was checked by a local shop, could be a wide range of issues causing low compression. If I purchase the tractor I do not have plans to use to very much, so I have all the time in the world to get the engine right.

Heard back from the man today and his dad said $200 and it is mine. They are pretty sure that the lower engine cover panel are still there and in very good shape, but lets assume they are not there because they are not 100% sure.

$200 is a total steal for that tractor!!

Make sure to bounce them about the air filter, and the engine side covers.

I figured the tractor was worth $200. I figure that a set of side covers will not not be to hard to come by, now what they will cost me may be another story. They said the covers were there a year ago when the engine messed up, so hopefully they are still laying there somewhere.
