Hi,
Has anyone ever installed this engine to a Quiet Line Cadet? I am considering this an option to replace old engine. Does anyone see any major problems? http://cgi.ebay.com/Kohler-V-Twin-En...item3cb492e5db I do not like B&S engines so Vanguard is not an option. Either Onan twin or Kohler Tero |

The frame would have to be modified a bit to clear the starter, and some wiring changes would be necessary because of the difference in ignition systems between the K-series and the Command. You will also have to come up with a different way to mount the engine, as the ISO-mount rails will probably make the motor sit too high and cause driveshaft alignment issues. If you want to use the side panels you will also need to put some 'bump-outs' in them so they clear the cylinder heads. The flywheel-to-driveshaft coupler from a 2000 series lawn tractor with the Command engine would work in this application.
Normally I'd suggest rebuilding the original engine or finding an identical replacement, but seeing as you are not in the U.S., that may not be the easier/cheaper option. |

We installed an 18 hp Command in our Quiet Line 1000 puller. As Matt stated earlier, the outer frame rails need modified and the ignition wiring is different. The crank center line to the base mounting is much taller on the Command than the original K-series. The original ISO-mount rails can not be used. We ended up making a cradle that extended below the frame for the Command to sit on. The steering pivot mount will also need to be moved forward to clear the new cradle. Also, the frame will need to be modified for clearance of the starter and oil filter. We did not do anything with the PTO clutch since we are using the tractor for pulling. We've also heard of guys mounting the Command, then raising the clutch and transmission to align with the crankshaft center line. This was for a pulling application also.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
