Mark, I don't think that one runs off a rear PTO. I'm pretty sure he used a tiller gearbox turned 90° so the output shaft faces the rear.

IMHO, if you don't have a rear PTO and don't want to spend the $$$ on one. You could do it like that. Benefit: the PTO would turn the "correct" direction.

I thought about the tiller gear box thing to make a cat 0 snowblower attachment. Here in SE PA, a blade is enough 90% of the time, but there is always that one storm where you need a blower, plus it would be handy to use to clear the end of the drive, mailbox etc. and just plain cool. I think it would spin the right way? I thought about it for a few min and confused myself! HaHa. Then I can leave the blade on the front since it will be used more. Gotta make the 3 pt lift independent first...

It does run off the tiller drive. I have used this set up and it is fun to run.

You could use a rear PTO to run the mower if your Cub Cadet has a rear PTO. One draw back is the rear PTO is not live......meaning the clutch has to be engage for the attachment to run. The tractor doesn't stop as quick when the rear PTO and attachment (rear mower) is engage.

It's nice to see the sponsors of this forum bad mouthing other members. The ones that cry foul are the ones that don't want to ante up. I built that tractor from the ground up piece by piece starting with housing. So I believe I have the right to take it apart piece by piece.

BTW I paid over 600 for one of my rear pto's for the original. Just one of those things that I had to have at the time.

If it's like it's big brothers then a heavy enough moving rear impliment will continue to push the tractor forward, even with the clutch pushed in. Dad had to put a PTO slip clutch on his W-9 with his field mower. The PTO is not live in a W-9 so you'd have to clutch to engage pto and transmission, but when you'd go to stop/shut the pto off you'd shove in the clutch and the rotary mower spinning would continue to drive the tractor forward. The pto slip clutch eliminated that.
