Snowthrower identification
Can anyone take a stab at what model this snowblower might be?:
Useable/adaptable for a 1650? http://i708.photobucket.com/albums/w...ick/photo4.jpg |
Looks like a qa 42 or qa42a,do you have a picture of the gearbox area?
|
Sorry nope, this is the only pic.
Am scheduled to pick it up tomorrow... will have more pics then. From what I could tell (and hope) it was a QA42 - am wanting to prepare for winter. Was told it worked great when parked 5 years ago.... |

It is a QA 42.
QA42A has a pin sticking out where the holes for the mount are so it can fit on a wide frame. You can adapt it if you are good at welding. |
that one looks like a QA42 or 36. don't look like its adjustable
|
It is a qa42. Not an 'A'.
And the condition is what my humble opinion would be categorized as 'rusted junk'. But. I dragged it home anyway. Will see if I can get the bolts to break free... Or just plain break might be ok. And wire brush it a bit. And see ..... I have been known to beat a dead horse on more than one occasion. :beatdeadhorse: Of course it will need to be adapted to the wide frame but that should be manageable. And I have an extra deck lift that I will never use that might get cutup for the purpose. Which brings me to the next question: When a deck is sold, is it expected for the lift mount to come with it? |

Yes, it's like the fact that I always seem to find what I am looking for in the last place I look......

Went ahead and cleaned this up. Have an idea on how to modify the mount to fit the wideframe, which may only require two cuts and some bolt mount redrilling. I really cant justify cleaning this thing up, but did it anyway. It just might be usable.
Some additional pics showing some of the original condition, and also what its like after wire brushing - still plenty of pits. But since its nice thick steel to begin with, still enough left for structural integrity. http://i708.photobucket.com/albums/w...ick/photo8.jpg http://i708.photobucket.com/albums/w...ick/photo7.jpg After some wire brush (some of the parts I put in a bucket for electrolysis rust removal, which was fun): http://i708.photobucket.com/albums/w...ick/photo9.jpg And then I put this stuff on it - have never used it before, but I now know that it sticks really good to fingers (black fingers as I type - laquer thinner, acetone, nothing I could find would cut the stuff). This one quart cost as much as the entire blower.... http://i708.photobucket.com/albums/w...ick/photo6.jpg So now it looks like this: http://i708.photobucket.com/albums/w...ick/photo5.jpg http://i708.photobucket.com/albums/w...ck/photo10.jpg http://i708.photobucket.com/albums/w...ck/photo11.jpg At this stage, it feels like its going to turn into something useful. Maybe. My son says to leave it black. I think I may, and get it all operational and then see if its worth putting a top coat on. The real test will come when the snow hits. |
Mounted. Was able to adapt the mounts with bolts - since I dont have a welder.
Needs a new chain. The rest of the bearings are in ok shape. Then wait for some snow to try it out.... http://i708.photobucket.com/albums/w...ck/photo12.jpg |
Hope to see some action shots this Winter. :beerchug:
