On this episode of "Big Dumb Loads"......

So the village didn't like my trailer in the front yard. My 24' x 8.5' trailer that weighs #3750 pounds empty which it is. I am not able to move into the acceptable position with my truck due to the tight turn radius so it was up to the Cub 102. I welded up a hitch and bolted it to the rear end. I was skeptical that the Cub was going to be up to the task, this trailer is ridiculously tounge heavy. But I kinda didnt have a choice. On top of the task itself, there is 3" of wet snow cover.

I was honestly completely surprised at how well it handled the trailer. Aside from my from my front tires barely touching the ground, I had no issues moving the trailer. I was in 1st gear with the creeper engaged and the throttle was at idle. It didn't hardly even put a load on the engine. I am impressed with this little Cub!!

Heres the proof

Great job with the move!:beerchug:

Glad the Cub Got Er Done and I'm glad I don't live in a town that has a problem with a nice looking trailer in the yard. Don't they have better things to deal with? :bigthink:

Yeah I didn't know know it was against any code at the time of move in because other people had similar things in the front yard. However they don't allow that stuff to be in the yard during the winter. Lame. Other than that snafu, my lifestyle seems to fit within the other regulations so its not too bad.

That's an impressive looking hitch set up. I've moved some heavy trailers/loads at my parent's place with Dad's 125 when I lived there. Going slow and steady is the key. Was your trailer empty?

Thanks. I wanted it as overkill as possible since i was worried about tounge weight. The trailer was empty but its an all steel frame and comes in at #3750.

Muzzy 12-28-2013 06:42 PM

I'm not surprized. I move trailers all the time with my 123. After all, it's an IH cub cadet!!! :beerchug:

Ha, mirrors. It wasn't too bad actually, i would jump off and check occasionally but with it being a flat front, i was able to keep it in the direction i wanted it to go.

Interesting, I was wondering what I could reasonably tow (move) with a Cub Cadet. I have a car hauler trailer, about 1,800 lbs empty I think, with pretty heavy tongue weight. I also have to put it in a spot that eliminates using my truck (back into a barn & turn it sharp). I use a 2-wheel tongue dolly now, takes help to push (not fun) and the weight is likely more than it was designed to move, thinking it will fold up on me soon.......:Pray:
Nice hitch set-up, you got me thinking now! :bigthink:
Thanks for sharing,

I move this boat ( 18' open bow w/ 4.3L V6 Merc crusier and Alpha I outdrive ) with my 125 using my sleeve hitch adapter and my ball adapter.

I can even tow it up my driveway with any problem at all.

The snow thrower may have been the only thing keeping the front tires on the ground :biggrin2:

Yamaguy 12-28-2013 07:37 PM

I'm still amazed that it did it so effortlessly... I figured u would get off the driveway and be stuck. Next time we need a vid!!

Ya, video would be nice. :biggrin2: I'm sure the tongue heavy trailer greatly increased traction!!

offroadphotog, are your tires loaded?

Merk 12-28-2013 08:17 PM

How do you like the tire chains/strapes?

I will add, I have 10.50s on my 125 and they are loaded with some type of fluid. ( don't know what, I purchased the tires already filled ). That does make a major difference.

gmbadgley 12-28-2013 08:33 PM

Back when I was in high school (many years ago) I would use my 122 to move sail boats from the parking area to the launch hoist during Regattas at the Yacht club where I worked. No trick to move 50 boats in & out during the weekend. People would take one look at me and laugh, until the cub dragged their boat to and from launch area. Never missed a beat.

cubcadet 12-28-2013 08:40 PM

Good job:beerchug:

cubfan 12-28-2013 08:40 PM

Gotta love those Cub Cadets.Talk about big kahunnas!!!!!!:beerchug:!!!!!!!

Alvy 12-28-2013 10:06 PM

Great work. Its amazing that the tongue weight alone didn't loft the fronts off the ground but yeah I guess the blower was enough ballast to keep it down, good job.

ACecil 12-29-2013 12:58 AM

It's amazing what these machines will do! Thanks for the pics.

No they aren't loaded. Just the wheel weights and the straps. I had decent traction but would slip around when un-hooked from the trailer. As soon as I hooked up I had 100% traction :biggrin2:

Its the best $80 I've spent. The first time I had to snowplow the drive I spent more time getting off to push because it kept getting stuck than actually blowing snow. I had close to zero traction. I got the straps, was kinda skeptical, I had planned to add a weight bucket but threw the straps on first and I cannot believe the amount of traction I have. I pretty much couldn't get stuck and even went accros the lawn pushing/blowing snow trying to get stuck and never did. No need to load tires or even add weight in the back at this point.

Yeah I don't think I am going to try it without the blower. The front tires were barely on the ground. A cutting brake would have been nice..... I am going to have to make a weight for the front for moving the trailer in the summer.

jbrewer 12-30-2013 09:54 AM

The real problem is not moving a heavy trailer but STOPPING a heavy trailer :)

That's what I was thinking. You might get into trouble on any more than a gentle slope.

Yamaguy 12-31-2013 01:10 AM

That is the one good thing about living around here, unless you are by a river or stream, it is almost dead flat. Just step on the clutch and almost instantly come to a stop.

Yeah that was the sketchy part for sure. Thankfully with all the snow, the trailer stopped on its own. But like Yamaguy stated, I live in Illinois, there are no elevation changes :bigthink:
