E-Bay is clearly the reason our tractors and parts prices are rising. It's nice to want, but the sad truth is..... someone will probably pay it. :bash2::bash2:

R Bedell 01-17-2014 11:05 AM

It is manifested in the Society of "getting a whole lot for nothing"....:crap:

Muzzy 01-17-2014 11:19 AM

My local CL has gone nuts too. A few years back you could see several cubs for less than $300. Now there all $500 to $1000 for junkers. The guy I get my parts from has gone nuts too But, that's what happens when people start collecting things. I'm just glad that I got mine when I did.

Cubcrazy 01-17-2014 12:19 PM

Yowzers! Pretty steep prices!

cornelius cubs 01-17-2014 12:30 PM

that is nuts!

ACecil 01-17-2014 01:09 PM

They must have rocks in their heads!

Billy-O 01-17-2014 01:19 PM

I look at it this way: There's nothing wrong with seller setting a price so high that you and I are not even interested in the deal. There's gotta be something wrong with the buyer who commit to pay far beyond market value. Caveat Emptor

J-Mech 01-17-2014 01:19 PM

My favorite is the $1700 electric lift. Makes me want to "ask the seller a question"..... a question like "ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR :censored: :censored: MIND!?!?!"

BigB87 01-17-2014 01:21 PM

HOLY COW!! are these guys nuts?? i mean yeah i price mine high to people cuz i dont want to sell them but 1500 for a tractor that needs a complete overhaul...toomuch for my blood...as far as CL goes...well use to guys would put themon there for 100 to 300 for junkers but now like yall said over 500 for one thats pure junk and needs a motor and rearend

Sam Mac 01-17-2014 01:38 PM

I love it, $2,700 for a 1200 with a bent drive shaft. Seriously? Someone has been doing drugs. :biggrin2:

DoubleO7 01-17-2014 02:11 PM

Guys, guys, guys..........
It is not the seller that is nuts, it is the buyer.
If there is one.
The seller only loses time and effort to list it and a couple of dollars(?) if it does not sell.

CL is worse cause it cost zero.

Cubby guy 01-17-2014 03:41 PM

I don't know what those guys gave been smoking, but I want a bushel or 2 of it...

:biggrin2::HeadScratch::Price::ScrewLoose:

J-Mech 01-17-2014 04:03 PM

Maybe we're sitting on gold mines! Mike, you'd be a WEALTHY man at those prices!

Sugarmaker 01-17-2014 04:08 PM

I agree the prices on CL are high. On the filp side its not hard at all to get a bunch of money tied up in these little guys. As for the parts, The rarer they are the more they are going to ask. The tractor with the bent drive shaft looks pretty good in those shots. The 102 doesn't look any better than the one I have, But if the son did all that to it he might have that much into it. Problem is its hard to find someone to pay those prices.
Thanks for posting, keeps us on our toes and in touch with the almost real world.
Regards,
Chris

ol'George 01-17-2014 04:19 PM

What gets me is people selling Kt17's/ or magnum twin, crankcase halves.
these cases are machined as a pair like a connecting rod,
and they are selling just a 1/2 crankcase, then some poor person buys one and it is about as useless as a one left shoe!
Now as far as inflated prices, it's just like collector cars.
Tv shows/Auctions give people the idea their rusted out klunker is a gold mine.
If no one pays inflated prices, soon the market will correct itself.

DoubleO7 01-17-2014 05:21 PM

Seems odd to list that 1200 for $2700 and tell everyone it has a bent driveshaft.

If your gonna fix it before delivery, why bother to mention it?

cuber 01-17-2014 06:08 PM

LOL Well if they actually get that asking price I will sell all of my cubs. :bigthink:
I have 7 or 8 cubs.... LOL if I could get 2grand a piece I could retire.
:LMAO1:

The 1200 with IH tiller don't look bad. The seller has some time into it. But with no documentation on a engine rebuild, or transmission repairs, this could be priced a little too high. The seller would have been better off to have repaired the driveshaft mistake and the paint, and just left that out all together. Those other items seem out of wack too, Sky-High! Sky Walker!

I could see if it was a tag for a deck or something like that (and some of those are deck tags) and you was restoring, but needed a good tag for it. I've had engines that I wish had a better looking tag on them, obviously of the same make and model. However, I don't think those tags are of any real quality for a restoration.

I think the point he was at was that if one of those tags was for say, a 169, or an 800 or something, you could "build your own". Cool to hang on the wall, or a plaque or something, but not really worth much, your right. Not really "restoration quality".

Sam Mac 01-21-2014 03:38 PM

I have 2 tags off the last 2 decks I sandblasted. I was going to rivet them back on but maybe I can get rich if I sell them LMAO. :biggrin2:

What is the sellers deception?

There is the possibility of a buyer using them to deceive.

Good point, but why else would someone use a tractor tag that does not belong on any other but the original it came from. I can see using deck and implement tags since they are not specific to each other. To me its the same thing selling or using a serial no. that is original to one item.

Cubby guy 01-21-2014 08:12 PM

Hmmmmm...

I lost the tag off my 38A deck, but I am not going to replace it.

Saw this and remembered this post. The seller even encourages it, but my thoughts went right to a resto with a clean tag (with a few minor scratches). Going to list this in the Flea-Bay Deals, as well.

WOW,$1500 put into it and it looks like that ? For that price he could have had everything restored from ground up and a new paint job.
