What's in your... Kohler K Series? Oil, that is!
Reading on site, I saw information on lack of Zinc/Phosphorus in current engine oils. I contacted Castrol to find Zinc content of their 30W. Info from Castrol:
"The actual amount of zinc and phosphorus is not published though it has been reduced in all of the oils with the exception of the 5W-50 which was specially formulated for this type of application. Castrol EDGE with Syntec Power Technology (SPT) SAE 5W-50 has been recently reformulated to have a boosted level of ZDDP (1300 ppm) to help protect flat tappet cam engines in classic cars. This engine oil is a full synthetic, has excellent cold temperature properties, and has a high temperature viscosity (SAE 50) that is suitable for use in many classic car applications. However,we always recommend to follow the guidelines of the original manufacturer in terms of API rating and viscosity. If 5W-50 isn't a suitable weight, we wouldn't recommend its use either." I plan to stick to straight 30W, but may go to diesel 30W or add ZDDPlus: http://zddplus.com/how-it-works/ http://www.amazon.com/ZDDPPlus-Engin...=zddp+additive What do you guys use? |
I use Kohler engine oil. It may cost more....Kohler should know what should be in their oil.

I can't find the Rotella T 30W in gallon jugs around here.

I have O'Reilly's order it. Did you look at Wal-Mart? A lot of stores keep it. |
We use olive oil,
if it is good for long life in people, it must do the same for engines. after we eat our salad, we drain our dishes in a collection vessel, then we strain it, removing the pieces of vegatative matter and wayward macaroni. Put it in the engine and it smells like Olive Garden on a Saturday night. |

Seriously try Wally world for Rotella T 30W. Pretty much any diesel engine oil has some zinc in it. Mobil Delvac also from Wally is as good or better than Rotella. |

I found Rotella T1 Straight 30W at my local AutoZone store. I plan to start using it in my K321 engine. Sounds like pretty good oil: http://www.shell.com/rotella/products/t1.html

My K301's get Shell Rotella T 30wt changed once a year. They all get less than 25 hours of use. Chris |
Another vote for Shell Rotella 30w; good stuff for small engines, and not too bad on the wallet, to boot. :beerchug:

A vote here for Rotella T 15W/40. I use it in my PowerStroke, my 2750 Kubota, all my old muscle cars and all my small engine stuff like CC's.
Is that the right stuff? Dunno' because I can't find Rotella T in the owner's manual for this stuff but they seem to like it because they've been running on it for years. |
I always have used Cub Cadet oil from my local dealer. A quart is no more expensive at the dealership as for what TSC is charging. My next choice is Kohler engine oil.
I leave the guess work to the off-brand engine oils. |
