Think we should start a pool on how much it goes for?
|
Looks like this thread my get some discussion, so I copied it to the General Talk section. There is still the original post in the C-list section for others to view if interested.
|
im gonna go with $1251
|
9 bids at $1,004.99?! Wow, wonder if any of my stuff is worth that. It'd be cool to have, yes for sure, but not for that cash. Why not just buy a couple Cubs?!

I believe the seller in that it is a true NOS sign. Problem with stuff like this is it is to easy to make and look original. I mean, really... there is a guy in even my small town who makes signs like this. I know he would make them if he knew he could sell them. I bet it brings at least $2500. 9 days left and it's already over $1K. |

The plastic in that sign has aged just sitting on the shelf. I wonder how fragile it is?
|
$1975.00.........It'll go for more if it had a diesel Kubota in it.:biggrin2:
|
It's probably pretty fragile, from how yellow it looks. Yeah there are folks out there that fake them , then pass them off as real. Something like that would definitely have to be displayed inside. I have some IH memorabilia, a stocking hat. A funnel from our old IH dealer with their name on it a 1976 parts and tool magazine. I also have a bunch of older IH buyers guides. Also several IH operators manuals, along with all my IH toys. One place I'd like to go is in Florida, Pauqettes IH museum in Lakeland. All cool stuff, be nice to find some more of it. I know a couple ex IH mechanics that have some stuff, need to talk to them.
|
I think it may even approach $3k. Read the questions in the ad. The seller has already turned down an offer of $1750.

Like Jon said, there are ALOT of big time IH collectors out there who'd love to have this in their collection if it's legit. Most of those said collectors have some green to play with and hundreds of restored tractors F20 up to the 5X88 series. Couple out my way, Jon Kinzebaw (think Kinze equipment) and Jerry Mez who owns Farmall Land out in Avoca, IA. I'm gonna guess in the $2500-$3000 range. :bigthink: |

The sign could go for big bucks though, I dunno. |

Cool, I'll pass.

Yeah alvy I've seen him on classic tractors he's got very deep pockets , but that's good cause he's got a heck of IH collection! I'm glad someone like him is able to persevere IH history like that.

Current bid:
US $1,225.00 :biggrin2: |

Says he already had an offer for $1750. Guess he will regret not jumping on that. But then again I have seen stuff go for stupid money in the last couple hrs of the auction.:bigthink:

If it has yellowed the plastic is lexan which shouldn't be fragile, if it's acrylic then it is more likely to be fragile or break, but wouldn't yellow. Guessing early lexan, (polycarbonate) that stuff really yellowed fast, modern poly has uv coating on it.
Wouldn't think the original idea would be for a yellow background? But can't remember seeing one back then, just a guess but would say it's not older than 1970 - 75. Daulite has kicked out a ton of cookie cutter signs for national accounts over the years. Retail now to make if from scratch would to be around $2,500.00 but from Daulite because they made hundreds that size and used the same molds for the faces would be considerably less. Just my opinion, finally something I know a little about, been in the biz for almost 25 years. Vic |
Current bid $1427.56
Vic, I believe the yellow was on purpose. Seller claims it was for construction equipment sales, industrials were painted yellow, I assume it's a tie in. Interesting about the different types of plastic though. Bill |
$1,526.67 with one hour nine minutes to go.

Hmm,
Went for less than I thought it would. Some people like to add "fluff" to their ads. He/she was probably never offered $1750, just saying that to try to get more money. And when you put "ultra rare" in the title............. I think putting "Unobtainium" in the title works better. :biggrin2: |
So would you all rather have that $1500 plastic sign to hang on the wall?
Or a $1500 M & W 9-speed Or a $1500 Hub City PTO reverser To hang on your Cub Cadet ? |
Don't know what I'd do with either but the tranny will last a lot longer.
