Great looking 1811 and attachments, Danger! First things I would do, would be changing the engine oil and tranny fluid. You never know, when they were last changed. :beerchug:
|
Check out this website. http://www.plowdayfever.com There are a couple of plowdays in PA in the next 2 weekends. you should bring her out and break her in.
AJ |
VERY NICE! Looks like you done did good :beerchug:
As ACecil said, a complete fluid change is a must. Make sure to use Hy-Trans/Hy-trans ultra in the tranny. You just never know if the previous owner kept up on it or even used the right fluids. |
:Welcome2:
Great looking 1811, and it looks to be in excellent shape too. The issues with your deck are pretty common for these. I agree with everyone else's advice....change the oil, the hy-tran and filter, lube up all the zerks on the deck as well as the steering column and spindles, some new plugs and air filter would be a good idea too if they haven't been changed in a while. Wax her up and be proud!!:biggrin2.gif: Jeff (teet) |
Very nice:beerchug: Can't add more than what's already been said - fluids, lube, filter(s), & plugs. (Maybe a blade sharpening too!) But, wow, that Cub is in really nice condition!
Now, before Scott M comes and asks, I will:biggrin2.gif: How much??? That's a nice package, tractor, blower, blade, & plow. |
I'm not 100% sure from your picture, but it looks like that lower sleeve hitch bracket is attached to your aluminum rear end without any re-enforcement/fabrication of somekind. That rear end wasn't designed to handle that kind of stress without modifications. I wouldn't plow with it until you fab up something to re-enforce it or put a Cat 0 3pt hitch on it.
|
Yep that's pretty nice.
Currently I'm looking for a larger trailer and I'm spending around an hour plus a night scouring CL for a good deal...want to know trailer prices???? I'll tell you... Yeah I'm alway curious about deals and I like to know prices and I don't understand why guys don't say what they paid. I paid $1100 for my 1811 but then I sold the PS unit off of it for $350 and the 44" deck that I didn't need off of it for $150...so I have $600 in mine. You have a pretty decent package there and yeah I'm curious. Youd think we're a bunch of women at a shoe sale the way guys protect their purchase prices.....???? Scott |
I paid $975 for the whole package plus $25 to have it delivered(no trailer at the moment). So I think I did OK. It seems to run and sound just fine as well.
The previous owner had it from 190 hours till now at 1300 hours. You can tell he took good care of it. He said he greased all the fittings and changed the engine oil. He didn't mention the transmission though. I'll get some more pics of the rear end after work and you guys can let me know if you think it'll be strong enough for plowing. And other tasks if I can find the attachments. The brochure seems to say that there is a non self powered tiller that will work with it. Is that the case? Or is my only tiller option a self powered pull behind? Shawn |
Yeah you did good.
Scott |
I didn't notice the problem with your hitch until Adrian pointed it out. You basically have three options. Buy a aftermarket Cat 0 3pt, buy a new lower bracket that has "ears" that get bolted to the axle tubes, or I know a guy who make a really nice setup that bolts to the rear of the frame. The first 2 options you can get at http://www.xtrememotorworks.com/. The last option, I would have to track down his e-mail for you. Last I knew, he was charging $150 for a setup.
If you really want to get out and plow, you really need some wheel weights and ag tires, or at least chains on your turfs. Now for your tiller. If you go the Cat 0 route, then the self powered tiller is going to be your only option. If you stick with the sleeve hitch option that you aleady have, you can use just about any tiller with some modification. mainly you have to change the pulley on the gearbox that bolts to the rear end. It would need a 5/8" pulley. AJ |
I think I see what you mean. I'll have to take a closer look and get a few more pics for you guys.
Looking at the parts on that site you linked is a little overwhelming. I'm not sure I'm ready to drop 400+ for that category 0 hitch on there, but the attachments they have on there and I'm sure elsewhere would make it worth it for sure. With regards to the tiller, I didn't realize that the PTO driven ones would work without much modification. Otherwise I probably would have picked up one of the many I've seen for sale over the past week. Of course I'm sure it wouldn't be wise to mount something like that with the way the rear end is currently. I have a lot to learn  Shawn |
Based on the price of new garden tractors that aren't built as solidly, you stole it...
|

Totally agree, you scored good for that price.. |
More pics and a possible issue.....
So I decided to take a few pics of the tractor but more on the component side and innards.
The brakes don't actually function as they should as in stopping the wheels. The pedal does take the hydro back to neutral though. Not sure it's worth fixing those at the present since I don't have any slopes on my property. http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...1/IMG_0019.jpg http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...1/IMG_0020.jpg More pics of the rear end and current hitch. http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...1/IMG_0021.jpg http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...1/IMG_0022.jpg Most of the top of the deck area http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...1/IMG_0023.jpg Steering at the wheels. http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...1/IMG_0024.jpg http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...1/IMG_0025.jpg Mule drive I believe it's called. http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...1/IMG_0026.jpg Wiring behind dash. Kind of dark unfortunately. http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...1/IMG_0027.jpg Now we get to a couple areas I'm sure you guys will see and will throw up red flags. I didn't see a couple of these while taking the pics, but now that I look at the pics I'm a tad concerned. http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...1/IMG_0028.jpg http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...1/IMG_0029.jpg http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...1/IMG_0030.jpg http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...1/IMG_0031.jpg These are what was holding on the center cover plate. http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...1/IMG_0032.jpg And in case anyone feels up for translating this. http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...1/IMG_0033.jpg |
Great pics Shawn.
Looks like the steering column got whacked by the drive shaft at some point in its life....do you notice any issues with the steering? The rest of it looks pretty typical for a mid 80's CCC. Keep an eye out for leaks around the hydro pump and tranny, nothing to really worry about, but it can get frustrating searching for seepage...ask me how I know...I just replaced all the seals on my 1211's hydro pump and transmission. Congrats again!:biggrin2.gif: Jeff (teet) |
It doesn't turn hard or anything, but it doesn't seem like it has the turning radius I'd think it should. Could just be the way the drive though.
The joys of jumping into the deep end with lead shoes on! |
There's a Cat 0 tiller with an 8hp briggs mounted to it that is available but you currently don't have the correct hitch for it.

Cub cadet offered one you would have to search for one. That column sure did take a whack. At least they put new driveshaft flex discs etc... on it. If I was you, I'd break it down shot gun style and clean the hell out of it and do a good look over. It looks like there's a few places the wiring could use attention. You still scored a great deal on that nice combo package. That blower is very nice.

Cherry 1811!
Congrats man |
Shawn you got a great deal. :beerchug:
That steering column is kind of bad looking though. |
Ut oh....
So I took the 1811 out and mowed the yard today with it. Pulled up in front of the garage and then did the trimming.
Then when I went to start it again to park it in the garage. It wouldn't start! Turn the key and it sounds like the starter is trying but it doesn't seem like the motor is turning over.....just sort of makes the same sound if you try to in engage the starter on a vehicle that's already running. What should I check?! Didn't see anything obvious when taking off the panels. Edit: Also, since this is the first hydro i've ever driven. Is it supposed to slow down going up hills and speed up going down hills? I have a couple small slopes in the yard it was quite noticeable. |
|
Thanks Matt. I'll give it a shot tomorrow.
Hoping it isn't anything more serious than that. |
It isn't likely to be. These starters are notorious for this. I've done this repair about 4 or 5 times.

The Starter!!
So I picked up a few things I would need for the starter project. Got home and started right off.
I was unable to find a local store that sold a wrench anything like the torched wrench in Matt's guide and since I don't have a torch I thought I might be out of luck. Getting the sheet metal off was easy enough then I saw the reason for the wrench. But I also thought there was a chance I might get it out with just the open end of the wrench. And I was right!! It's a tight fit for sure, but I was able to get the starter out. http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...1/IMG_0034.jpg http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...1/IMG_0035.jpg Apart here. You'll notice a washer missing. I discovered that one by letting it roll across the work bench. http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...1/IMG_0036.jpg http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...1/IMG_0037.jpg Could this be a problem??!! http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...1/IMG_0039.jpg Cleaned up! http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...1/IMG_0040.jpg Notice the crack in the bushing here. Hopefully the starter still has at least a couple years left. http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t...1/IMG_0041.jpg After the clean up I reassembled it and put it back into the tractor. Making sure this time to 'modify' the small piece of sheet metal housing that made it nearly impossible to get to the bottom mount nut. Hooked the battery back up and she fired right up!! Thanks Matt. But I'm wondering if you guys have any tricks for getting the bottom two sheet metal screws back in?? I fought with those two for nearly two hours and was unable to get them to start in the holes. It's just too tight a fit for my hands. Thanks again for the advice Matt, hopefully you have some more for those two bolts! |
