Plowing with aluminum rearend.

What are some opinions of plowing with an aluminum rearend tractor? This will be a sleeve hitch setup, not cat 0.

TNTs CC 04-13-2018 04:34 PM

Which model tractor or rear end are you talking about?

A SGT like a Cub 2182 with the 3cyl Kubota engine has an aluminum rear.

V30crewcab 04-13-2018 04:38 PM

install some braces and get it done.

And make sure bolts holding the rear end stay tight.

Oak 04-13-2018 04:41 PM

He's talking about the early 82 series with the aluminum rears. A 2182 would have a cat 0 hitch that attaches to the frame.

Give it hell Tim. If it brakes, let us know.....with pics of course.:biggrin2:

Know of a gent or two that modify a sleeve hitch to work on a aluminum rear.

It's a 1050. I have a lower bracket for the lift that bolts on with the 5 lower cover holes. Thinking about throwing the lift on for plow day.

sir_lancealot 04-13-2018 05:07 PM

Jonathan plows with his 1050.

True but I'm not sure if he's pulling off the rearend or something else.

DeltaCub 04-13-2018 05:28 PM

Xtreme has this bracket....

I don’t think he does anything special. When he gets done licking windows, I’m sure he’ll be along to comment.

You forgot the drooling also...

Tim, I do believe the bracket Deltacub linked you to uses the same holes as the meow 0 setup, so it will be good.

My al rear 782 does great with the extreme u bracket for several years now. Make sure screws have correct length of engagement

Here's the bracket I have. The bracket came on an 1810 parts tractor and the tractor had a NY plow day sticker on the dash so I assume it was used to plow at least once. I'm just gonna use it and if it breaks, it breaks.

darkminion_17 04-13-2018 08:41 PM

Maybe that it why it is off the tractor, you do not want to break your rear end.

Tim, weld some side supports to it so it will mount onto the axle carriers. Will also pull on the sides and not just on the back.

It was still on the rearend about a half hour before the picture was taken, the bolts and threads looked fine.

Sorry, I would have been here sooner, but we had A LOT of dirty windows. Good thing I drool so much.......:Slap::biggrin2:

I built an adapter to make the tiller a quick mount. It doubles as the mount for the drawbar and lower hitch. Cool thing, it works on any tractor. Now, you don't need anything this elaborate.

Tim, I would add some steel bars to the plate that run to the axle bolts. Honestly, if you just catch one axle bolt on each side, it will be much better. You would probably be fine with just that bracket, but a little added security is better. If you do use it by itself, my recommendation is to get all thread and bottom it out in the holes and attach the rear plate with nuts. I would put washers behind the plate because the AL cover isn't flat like the CI ones. :beerchug:

I got the lower bracket mounted but ran into an issue, I couldn't use the sleeve hitch I got from Jeff without modifying the hitch and that wasn't happening. I had a lower bracket for a cast rearend sitting here so I drilled it out and installed it. Once it was on I made some brackets for the side and will weld everything together when I take it to the shop later in the week.

johncub7172 04-15-2018 07:40 PM

That makes sense, since Jeff's are a little different in design and attachment. Looks heavy duty from the original Brinly.

What was the interference problem with mine?

I could make one without the "extra" ear on it if needed.

You make the outside tab longer than the inside and the way that other bracket was made the longer tab kept it from going on far enough to get the pins in. Nothing wrong with your design, it just wouldn't work with the homemade lower bracket.

Thanks.

I can make your next one equal length on the ears :biggrin2:

It's not an issue, I won't be using that bracket for anything now that I modified the other one.

olds45512 04-16-2018 08:19 AM

I also got the AG's and tri ribs switched over from the 1211. I need to talk to a local machinist to have a bushing made for the rear lift and the 1050 will be good to go for plow day.

Merk 04-16-2018 04:32 PM

Xtreme motor works has a 3 or 4 dual with ears tab for cast iron and aluminum rear ends.
http://www.xtrememotorworks.com/Part...Cub-Cadet.html
I purchase one of the 3 hole dual tab with ears for my 149: I was stretching bolts that held the 3 hole hitch bracket on my 149. No more problems since.

My buddy got the bushing made that I needed to bolt the lift bar to the rear rockshaft, now that that's all done all I need to do is weld the brackets on to the lower bracket and it will be ready to plow.

Got the 1050 cleaned up and loaded on the trailer for PA plow day, it might not be the prettiest tractor there but it will be one of the most original tractors there.

Like that tire setup! Are those narrow rims?
