1872 pump issue?

I've got a 1872, when its cold, after starting it it won't move or steer. If I let it run for a while and then shut it off and let it absorb the heat it will come out of it but it takes a few times. The colder it is the worse it is. Relief valve issue? What other possibilities? How do I check?

The dipstick only goes about an inch in the fluid, stick a long dowel in there and see if it is clear all the way down.
Or the filter needs a change, may have water in it

I'd pull the rear cover for a good flush and refill.

1811woody 01-23-2022 01:57 PM

Ok I see what everybody is thinking, It looks like i'll be flushing the hydraulic pump. Is there a write up on the procedure? I am not able to do a search for some reason.

No need to flush the pump. Get a new rear cover gasket, 2 gallons of your favorite oil and an oil filter. Then just pull the rear cover, jack the front of the machine up and spray the inside of the rear with some brake cleaner. Make sure nothing is in there that shouldn't be and that the suction tube is free and clear of any debris. Good luck and let us know how works after you change the fluid.

Make sure to use the correct filter.

How do I get any moisture out of the lines If I cant flush it?

Sam Mac 01-24-2022 07:19 PM

Change the fluid and filter and you should be good. Then if you want to be sure change it again in 6 months to a year. :beerchug:

I use this oil for troubleshooting. Then when I done I put the hytran in.

And when was the last time the filter was changed.

I fired up my 1811 when it was -2 ambient, and while it whined a little louder, I still had all functions.

Yes, use the Cub Cadet/MTD filter, it's worth the few bucks.
