1810 Hydro leak I need your help
5 Attachment(s)
I am new to the older type Hydro, I have a leak where the speed control shaft come though the outer side of the hydro pump, I guess I am saying that right, I have pictures for you to look at, how and what is the easy way to fix this. I am use to all gear drives, any help would be great. thanks

There's a seal in there, and you have to disassemble the whole hydro to get that shaft out to get to it. It's not a small job.
If you're going to replace it, you'll want to replace your gasket between the hydro and the diff, as well as the o-ring on the front of the hydro while you're at it. The service manual will guide you through the job. |
The right side trunnion seal does not require disassembly of the hydro unit; simply remove the snap ring and washer, pry out the seal, install a new one, and put the washer and snap ring back on.

I will add to the correct reply from Matt, it is also wise to clean the shaft a bit with fine emery paper removing any rust that might be there.
Using a ice pick to start a hole into which a sheet metal screw in inserted, makes a nice prying head to remove the seal with. It is a relatively easy job unlike the other side which does require hydro disassembly. Take care to not nick/damage the bore that the seal lives in. |
Thanks Guys, I will try and get this done. where would find the number for the seal, thanks

No problem :)

So Matt, you can remove the seal with the shaft in place? The reason I answered as I did is because I was looking into replacing those seals on my 1650 project, and assumed I'd have to get the shafts out to get to the seals...
