Battery drain?

Just started Sat.

Started up my # 122 ran fine:

Sunday start up & no power to start.

Figure I left the key on?

Put the charger on & less than 1 minute, starts right up.

Let it sit overnight & dead again this morning.:bash2:

It's a good battery, but sitting overnight there is not enough power to start it.

What does one do to narrow down the search for a battery drain?

Thanks,

Nik.

My guess is a bad S/G. A bad one will suck the juice out of a new battery in no time. I had that happen on an ole Farmall B just after I put a new battery in it.

Pull off the positive cable from the battery overnight.

If it still will not start the next day, it ain't the tractors fault!! :bigthink:

That's a good first start!

battery drain

it may not be the battery ,with only a min to charge ,it may be the c/r spring ,it may be weak or broke ,,pull the spark plug ,and test compression ,if its high ,the spring is bad ,keeping the exhaust closed ,making it hard to start .hope this helps .David

Check to see if the cutout part of the voltage reg is opening when you shut it off or you will be discharging through the S/G

Nik,

I disconnected the battery, hooked it up this morning & lots of power & started right up.

WHAT does S/G stand for?

Nik,

How does one check out a voltage regulator ??? To find out if a lead is open?

Nik, S/G is the Starter/Generator.

Now you disconnect the positive cable from the battery, then connect a 12 volt bulb between the cable and the battery post.

The bulb will light up.

Start disconnecting things until the bulb goes out.

When the bulb goes out, you have found the component that needs fixed/replaced.
