i know its not a cub but it is a kohler

My dad has a old John deere 112 I bought him last winter to plow with and I recently figured out its not charging . If I pull a battery cable off while running it just flat dies any ideas on what the problem could be? What should I try testing to trace the problem down? Any ideas would be great thanks.

If it is a starter gen setup (thinking it is) but can't remember,
ground the "F" terminal on the S/G, if it charges, then look to the regulator/wiring/grounds for problems
there is a procedure here might have do a search.( I can''t remember the link)

Ok newer system,
Check to see if you have voltage comming out of the voltage regulator/rectifier
( center terminal About 14V.) with engine running fast.
if so it is in associated wiring, if not, prolly regulator/rectifier

BTDT 40+ years,
down load the manual from kohler or one on here so you might do a search or just google it,
it will walk you through test procedure prolly something simple or maybe rect/reg.
is it a early round fender? like them, got one for my son, he still uses it although it has the tec. HH100 engine.
luck!

Nay unfortunatly its not a round fender but it does have a electric lift with locking blade which is why I bought it for him he didn't want my 102 cuz he's a deere guy and he just had surgery on his right arm last year so the lift makes it easier on him.
