My dad has a old John deere 112 I bought him last winter to plow with and I recently figured out its not charging . If I pull a battery cable off while running it just flat dies any ideas on what the problem could be? What should I try testing to trace the problem down? Any ideas would be great thanks.

If it is a starter gen setup (thinking it is) but can't remember,
ground the "F" terminal on the S/G, if it charges, then look to the regulator/wiring/grounds for problems there is a procedure here might have do a search.( I can''t remember the link) |

Ok newer system,
Check to see if you have voltage comming out of the voltage regulator/rectifier ( center terminal About 14V.) with engine running fast. if so it is in associated wiring, if not, prolly regulator/rectifier |

BTDT 40+ years,
down load the manual from kohler or one on here so you might do a search or just google it, it will walk you through test procedure prolly something simple or maybe rect/reg. is it a early round fender? like them, got one for my son, he still uses it although it has the tec. HH100 engine. luck! |

Nay unfortunatly its not a round fender but it does have a electric lift with locking blade which is why I bought it for him he didn't want my 102 cuz he's a deere guy and he just had surgery on his right arm last year so the lift makes it easier on him.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
