Need help.- Front PTO will not dis-engage
 
This is my first GT (122) and need help. My front pto will not stop. Adjusted linkage and still wont stop. Thought maybe bearing was locked up so I took the PTO off to check and bearing is good. Not sure what to do next. Any ideas?

When you say " the pto will not stop", does the mower deck continue to turn?

If so, check your clearance between the fiber ( or brass ) button on the flat arm and the round steel button on the PTO itself. It should almost touch.

Yes deck continues to turn. When i pull handle back to stop pto buttons both come togeather but deck keeps turning. Could the plates be rusted togeather? The tractor has been sitting for awhile.

Yes, they could be stuck together.

Got any heavy grass you could mow with the PTO handle pulled back? That might give enough resistance to break it free. Or, you may have to disassemble it to clean it up. You will need a guage to properly set the spring tension on the PTO. ( it's not hard to do but you must have the guage )

No on the grass and no gauge. Maybe i will just rebuild it since its off and looks pretty rusted up. How do I get a gauge? Do they come with rebuild kits? Thanks for the help Jeff.

Yes, the guage comes with the kit. There are two different PTO's that fit. One is smooth on the front of the pulley and the other has 6(?) nubs cast into it. One takes a double spring and the other takes a single spring.

Which one is this and when you say spring does it look like a spring? I dont see anyspring on this one.

This is the one with the 6 pins/nubs. The other style is smooth

No. Mine does not have the nubs. So mine is single spriing then? When i order kit does everything come with it that I need? Thank you very much for the help.

It's always good to check out the sponsors at the top of the page for parts. I checked on the Cub Classics website and they have the kit on page 2

Just let them know which hub you have ( nub/pins or smooth ) and you'll get the correct kit
