Hot Rod K-301

Well I have been toying with the idea of building a souped up kohler 301 for a couple years now and finally pulled the trigger on it. The block was sent to the local engine shop for a .020 bore job, -.010 grind on the crank pin and a valve job. The block was ultrasonically cleaned in a soapy water solution and looked just like a brand new piece. I cleaned up the intake and exhaust ports with a dremel tool and give them a good polishing. I blended in the ehxaust and intake valve pockets. Bored the venturi of the carb from .812 to .875. The cam was sent out for a regrind at David Kirks. I am waiting on the cam right now and the bosch blue coil and a point saver ignition system from Kirks right now. Forgot to mention the rod was polised to a mirror finish and all the rough casting and sharp edges on the crank was cleaned up and blued. I am basically following David Kirks Killer Kohler 301 build. Try to get some pics up this weekend.

I think most gains are good valve work. Radius ,taper and polished
Valves. Mill the head a bit.
Let us know how you like the cam cutting grass and throwing snow, plowing etc.

Forgot to mention that work was done on the valves and the head was milled .035. The cam will be in tomorrow afternoon and the assembly will begin. My new valve springs arrived today. This engine will probably not see much grass cutting or snow blowing. I think it will be a plow day play toy. Not really sure it's future.

Done the same thing to a K241 plus a few more tricks to valves.

It will probably be another couple months or so before I am ready to put fire to it. I am going slow and taking my time on this build. Do not want to overlook anything. Just got the crank, cam, gov, and lifters installed yesterday. The valve to head clearance needs to be checked. Need to make sure the valves won't hit the head after shaving.040 from the head. Brand new valve springs were installed. Time is very limited so I'm just plugging away slowly.
