Compresion spring length

What length should a read spring be compressed to when using a split collar.I heard it should be at 4 and a half inch when compressed.Does that sound right i may be wrong
thanks

4 1/2 sounds about right. I had to extent my clutch pedal a couple inches it was a little hard to push.

I always heard 4 5/8 but I don't think an 1/8th of an inch is really going to matter much. Like cubs-n-bxrs said you'll want a longer clutch arm and depending on what model tractor this is going in it'll start bending where the arm mounts to the dash tower.

Yes I forgot to mention that you will have to beef up the area where the throwout arm mounts. It will crack and break in a very short time. Is this going to be a puller? If not taking the red spring up that tight is overkill. I think mid west cub recommends 4 1/2". I set mine at 5" and the clutch does not even slip in 3rd gear. I can chain it to a tree and dump the clutch in 3rd gear and it will dig it's way to china with Carlisle True Powers on it.

Depends what model tractor, the short tunnel narrow frames are stronger where the clutch arm mounts and don't need to be modified.

4 1/2" is good.

I have a MWSC Kevlar clutch with the red spring behind my Mag12 that MWSC setup at 5" but I just wanted something good that will last for around the yard. Seems to work just fine no slipping and nice and smooth. That said I don't dump the clutch hooked up to a sled at WOT.:beerchug:

The clutch i got from mwsc is the 3puck 1100lbs it came with 2 of the 5/8 split collars an the spring is compressed to 4 1/2 inches. Of course I went overkill for pulling since I only have a k241

It is going in a puller a Cub Cadet 108 and i to have a K241 but its far from stock. Now you guys have me worried about the clutch arm issue where and how would i modify the arm where it mounts. :bash2:
