Is the CH185 18hp Kohler from a 2185 a worthy replacement in a 682?
I found this locally and am thinking about making an offer on the motor because I'd like to have a transplant ready when the KT17 Series I in my 682 eventually dies :biggrin2:

Buy the whole deal. Then put the trans on FleaBay. Keep the drive shaft so you can do away with the rag joint.

I have a Command 18 in my 682 converted to a 782. The motor is fantastic. I would love to find another one.:beerchug:

my next question is since this is a cupcake that motor, will the mounting holes lineups with the ones that are on the 682 or will I need to do some kind of fabrication? And how about the electrical system?

I saw that ad too, if I didn't have a girlfriend upset about my 782 and newly acquired 1710 parts rig I'd have that in my garage already.

You will have to drill 4 new mount holes in the plate which is no big deal. As far as the wiring goes I used the 2185 harness in my 682. Couldn't see cutting up a good 682 harness. Had to extend a few wires and shorten a couple others. I soldered all my connections and used heat shrink tubing to cover them up. I fabbed up my own driveshaft using the old shaft from the 2185. Very pleased with the results. You will either need to fab up your own muffler system or see if you can purchase one fron a cyclops with a command in it. I fabbed up my own.
