Cub 1450
 

Guys I bought this 1450 with a miss. The previous owner installed new points, condenser, coil, regulator and new head. It misses to beat hell wide open...then it idles down all by its self. I'm leaning towards maybe governor issues. What do you guys think?

first thing I'd do is make sure he put the correct coil on it, then make sure he put the wire from the points to the - side of the coil and that the condenser is also hooked to the - side. then check the timing . then I'd run it with the points cover off to see if its arcing the points bad. if it is I'd ohm out the coil , if its bad replace it, if not try a different condenser. if its not arcing the points I'd look at the carb. I see allot of people change mass amount of parts and don't have a clue what they are doing or why. they tend to mess up more than they intended to

Part number on coil is 31-1781. I turned it over with the cover off of points it's sparking as it should. I have a in line spark plug checker on it and it lights up like it should. Just don't understand why it idles down by it self at high idle. You can lower the throttle lever back down and raise it back up. It revs back up. Minute later is idling low again.

Next on Don's list was the carb- that's what I would check, fuel starting at the tank.

It's getting fuel. Had carb apart. Blew air in all port and jets. Pulled needle out..it's all clean and working as it should.

And when I say it idles down. The actual governor arm closes thus closing the connector rod to carb...

Did you remove the welch plugs, soak the carb, run a small wire thru the passages or just spray it? I've done it both ways and the first way is much better.

Set the gov. arm on the cross shaft as shown in the manual?
looked at the valves?

LEt us know all you've tried, more info the better.

Carb was completely tore down and sprayed with carb cleaner and blown out with air. I havent adjusted the governor arm. Be honest I have never done that nor have a manual to do so.

so what does it do? idle down on its own or mis or both ?
