K321 can only idle

Hi guys; I need some help. I ran out of gas the last time I used my 149. I refueled, but it wouldn't start. Pushed it to the garage and it sat overnight. Fired right up the next morning and idled great. I didn't give it any throttle since it started and I didn't need to use it. Forward six weeks, I started it up and it would idle, but try to give it some throttle and it just missed and shook. I have had the carb cleaned out in an acid bath, changed the fuel filter, checked the points, put in a new spark plug. It still idles, but it will die if I increase the throttle. Any ideas on what to do next?

will it throttle up with the choke on?

My best guess would be a clogged passage in the carb. If something is lodged, the acid bath you used wouldn't clear it out.

Maybe fuel tank strainer

Just a thought being this happened after running the tank dry, May have gotten something in your fuel tank outlet

No it won't throttle up with the choke pulled up olds45512. It just dies out.

Jeff, I sprayed carb cleaner through each passageway I could find and all seemed open. That's when I took it in to the tractor repair shop that I get parts from. That's were they put it in the acid bath. Any suggestions on cleaning out the passageways?

Bud, gas runs out of the tank line in a full stream.

If you are completely sure all the carb passages are clean, then check the adjustment screws themselves. There are passages in them too.

BEFORE you remove the screws to check, count the turns in to lightly touching bottom so you can return them to the prior setting. Post how many turns both of the screws require ( just in case the setting is way off )

I've had the idle and main screws out three times. Set them to the K321 settings listed in the Kohler manual. I got the idle screw set, but changing the main doesn't make any difference at idle.

bad coil or condenser....

Trekrider60 11-13-2015 08:59 PM

I have no idea how old the coil is; it was on the 149 when I got it last Jan. The condenser is just a year old with about 10 hrs total use. I wondered about the coil, but didn't know if it would cause this problem.
