Cub 73 Restore

I am in the process, slow process, of restoring my 73. One of the issues that has me scratching my head at the moment is the dash tower. It has numerous rust spots/holes in it; some of which are in bends and seams. My question to those more experienced is, would it be best to try and find a tower in better shape to purchase, bondo or weld repair it?

Post up some pics of it so we can see how bad it is. Just depends. On a 73, battery acid may have leaked causing the damage. May not just be from rust.

Great question. I am redoing a 72 that had the same issue(s) with the dash tower. As J-mech said battery acid can badly damage it. In my case, battery acid and exposure to the elements caused significant pitting and over damage. I am having it powder coated and the dash would require extensive body work and expensive, difficult to use compounds to fill in the pitting. I found a donor model that is in great shape and will be cheaper and easier to refinish.

Have fun with your project!:beerchug:

If I've done this correctly, I have attached two pictures of the tower.

I would try to find another tower from one of our sponsors or put an ad in the wanted section. Remember the 73 dash is specific to the 73 only.

Btw I think this thread should be moved to IH GT section

If you can't find a new one and are in need of professional assistance shoot me a pm.

Looks like quite the amount of damage, not too far to repair if you needed to however. Would probably be considerably cheaper to find a used one in better shape.

I appreciate everyones tips. I've been digging around down here for one with no luck yet. Don't see as many 73's. I have a parts 100 that I have been using on my 70, but as y'all know, that's a different tower. I am going to pull the creeper off and put on the 73 though. As well as the K241.
