18 hp Kohler Command

My kohler command loses power and misfires once it's warmed up. Any one else have this happen? Tia for any ideas on things to look at.

First place I would look is the coils.

If the ignition check shows OK, how about a valve sticking once the engine is warm? Might be helpful to know how long it has to run and if it is a solid or intermittent miss.

Carb, cooling, ignition, compression, fuel etc. :beerchug:

Thanks for the input. I was going to start with the carb but since it's been mentioned I go at the ignition first.

Can I access the coils without removing the engine?

You make no mention of the model of the tractor you are working on, so that is hard to say.

It is far easier to just pull the engine and remove the shrouds. It gives you a good opportunity for a full examination of that area, to clean the Fan and Shrouds, and make any repairs as necessary.

The tractor is a 2185 built in 94. It probably does need a real good cleaning.

Yup, pull it and remove the shrouds and look around. Save your knuckles. It's not terribly hard on the 2185 to get the engine off, but you might have trouble getting the exhaust apart to release the engine. I had two that I tore apart, both were rusted. The pipe was rusted and wouldn't come off the muffler inlet, and the bolts were rusted where the muffler is attached and the bolts broke off. New mufflers are pretty expensive for that. If that comes apart easily, the rest is a piece of cake. :beerchug:
