QA36A Snowthrower Bearings

I have recently obtained a QA36A snow thrower for my Cub 129. However I need to replace the auger bearings. I have the bearings but am stumped as to how to loosen the auger enough to be able to slide it out of the housing. Any tips ?

I'll assume you have the bearing holders loosened up.

There's a locking collar on the bearings. You'll need to loosen that up. Theoretically the auger will slide on a bearing a bit, and you can move it one way and free the other end up far enough to get it out. Reality is that they never seem to move, and it's a struggle. You might find yourself with a big pry bar bending the housing a little to get enough room to wiggle one out, or beating the auger shaft from the outside to try to get it to move.

It's not a delicate operation.

That worked after I got the collars loose it did not take much to pry the auger out of the housing. I just did not want to force anything if I was not supposed to. Thanks for the advice !

Excellent. I had my QA36B apart last year, and the bearings were pretty well seized to the shaft. Not a lot of fun. Took some emory cloth to them before I put it back together, and re-assembly was a lot better than disassembly.
