1512 eating fuel pumps

Other than getting 2 bad pumps in a row (of 2 different styles), what could cause the fuel pumps on a 1512 to go out within 2 hours of run time? It runs fine until the pump quits.

How are the pumps failing? I thought I had a run of bad fuel pumps on a 1512 I once owned. I would be mowing, then the engine would start missing and die, starving for fuel. I removed the hose on the output of the electric pump, turned the key on and nothing came out. I replaced the pump, it ran fine (or so I thought) for the rest of the season. Following spring, it started doing the same thing with a new pump. No output on the electric pump in the same way. I found I had a plugged filter screen on the valve in the tank. I ended up pulling the tank, washing it out and replacing all filters and hoses. Never had a problem again.
