2182 Radiator Cap
 

Maybe some of you will remember me - I bought my 2182 about a month ago. Now I am prepping it for winter and thought the cooling system would be a good place to start.

Now, having never seen one of these before, I do not know if I have an issue or not. I went to remove the radiator cap and the "ears" that allow a grip on the cap foul the dashboard/firewall when it is twisted. I cannot remove the cap.

Is this a common thing? Do I have to loosen the dashboard to remove the cap - or do I have an aftermarket on my radiator?

Is your cap an octagon shape or does it have two nubs sticking off like a Honda cap?

You should have the octogan one I believe. I think people replace with other style because they are easier to find in that size.

It is automotive style, only smaller. You say nubs, I say ears. The Part diagram looks like the one I have.

So, if the "ears" were gone, it would rotate without hitting?

I just called my local dealer and talked to one of their techs. He told me that yes, this is an issue with the 2182.

You have to loosen the dashboard to be able to remove the radiator cap.

Mystery (for me) solved.

Once you get it off, Look for an octagon or round cap that fits... That may keep you from the extra work next time...

That is BULL SHIT. That "Tech" has no idea what he is talking about. Pull the screen that slips down between the radiator and the dash and you'll have plenty of room to remove the cap. I've owned two 2182's and a 1782 and they use the same cooling system.

I have the Cyclops Service manual in our files section. It covers everything about the 2182. Section 5-10 explains how to remove the screen.

Good ta see ya Sam!.. When he said dash I just assumed he meant the air baffle screen thingmabob. Cant ya just push on that a little to make it deflect enough to open the cap?
