IH Cub Cadet 127 rear axle won’t move.

I have a Cub Cadet 127 with snow plow and PTO that I picked up for free a couple months back. I found out that the engine is stuck, so I’m gonna eventually put a different engine in it. However, the rear axle doesn’t turn no matter what, the brake is released, I can’t tell if the parking brake is broken or what (I played with it’s positioning a lot), and it was sitting outside for almost 20 years. I also put it in different gears and still nothing. Any ideas on why this might be?

Soooo... when you jack it up and turn the wheels they do not move?

LAWN BOY 11-14-2022 08:06 PM

Nope

No, they still don’t move even when I have the tractor jacked up.

That's what I was a thinking. Probably time to isolate what is actually
stuck. I would start with disconnecting the driveline so you know if
it is the engine or the rear end that is not turning. Not had my eyes on
a 127 but is there a release for the hydro valves and is it engaged?
So it rolls. I think you were on the right the track with a stuck brake but
it sound like you sorted that out. Jack it up as was mentioned.

Are you moving one wheel or both? Try moving one. I believed there is no internal brake in a 127.

Shoes rusted to the discs?

Have you pulled the rear cover to see if:
#1, anything appears broken?
#2 it is a ball of rust, full of water?
#3,most likely if it has disc brakes, the pads are rusted to the rotors as mentioned.:bigthink:

Another question: you say you "put it in different gears"
do you have a manual transmission or a hydrostatic drive?
it makes a difference,---- a hydro don't have gears and a clutch, per say.

Much like a car/truck, either manual shift or automatic

LAWN BOY 11-15-2022 08:00 AM

So it could be the engine?

From what I understand from West Valley G’s comment it could be the engine?? The engine is stuck and doesn’t turn per say, would that prevent the rear axle from turning? I just started getting into these tractors a couple months back so I do not have all the knowledge yet.

Rear cover

Ol’ George, It is a hydrostatic, I know now I said that wrong, my bad. Are you talking about the cover one would remove to change the fluid back there?
