1862 Ignition/wiring issue

I have been working on an 1862, the ignition switch was bad so I ordered one by the number on the old switch. It has a plug with 5 wires and a single post to the side for the green ground wire.

hooked up when you activate the key it keeps blowing the fuse. Disconnect the green wire and it doesnt blow the fuse.

Motor turns over but cant get it to start. I know it runs cause we had been cranking it with jumper cables.

Can someone please help me and guide me with this issue. Im thinking it has something to do with the safety switches.

Thanks

Did you get a Cub Cadet #925-3163 Ignition Switch ??

Yes, that's the one I got

So, you have a new 925-3163 and you are blowing the fuse.

(A) Do you have a VOM or DVM meter ??
(B) Do you know how to check for "resistance" (Ohms) ??

:bigthink:

Yes I have a multimeter, spent an hour yesterday checking wires, connectors, grounds , resistance etc. . Also when the brake is unlocked from the locked position it'll blow a fuse

Sounds like something is shorting to ground when you release the brake.

How about when the ground is connected to the switch it pops the fuse when key is turn on. I'm assuming it's all a ground related issue?

One of three things.
* Bad Seat Switch
* Bad Reverse Switch
* Bad Reverse Relay
This is assuming the wiring is intact, and in good condition.
