Default 129 loader backhoe project

I have a 129 that I'm restoring. I also have a loader that I built three years ago that has been on my 105, and a backhoe that I built this past year. I plan to put both on a restored 129. Now, I want to re-power 129 with a Kohler 14 hp that I have out of a newer Wheel Horse with solid state charging system. The problem is that I need to find a way to adapt the drive shaft to engine because the flywheel is different than the 12 hp that was in the 129!! Now, do they make something or do I have to make one? If any one can help that would be great!!

I have NO experience in this particular application but an educated guess would be that you will have to custom fabricate this adapter.

From what i hear the wheel horse engine is bigger in the lower end than the kohlers made for our cubs so making it fit into the frame rails a bolting into the holes is almost impossible. You will have to machine your own coupling to fit the drive shaft.

I think I remember reading somewhere that you could use the flywheel and tins off a 301 on a 321, maybe even the pan could be used so it would bolt on correctly. I have no actual experience in this swap, just thinking I read this somewhere and tossing it out there for your consideration, if it would work should eliminate all your mounting issues.

Default answer i hope

I have to ask a question first, is the flywheel not have the dowel pin hole in it or is that the problem? If it is but there is 4 holes that treaded there, you can get drive adapter at www.midwestsupercub.net something pull you so there no limited on flywheels. I hope this helps but if it don't please if it don't give me more info and I will see what else i can come with. If it has a flat oil pan it may cause a driveshaft issues due to different height from base to center of flywheel but most blocks you can put cub style oil pan.

The 12hp Kohler is a pretty gutsy mill. I'd leave well enough alone... what's the issue with the WH, and is there anything wrong with the 12hp mill in your 129?

If there is something wrong with the Kohler in your CC, looking into a rebuild would be easiest, or finding a 14hp CC-spec Kohler.

If you're determined to go through with this, I wish you luck, and it probably won't be all that difficult, but you'll have to do some fab work to make it all work out.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
