For those of you who have this model or the 42", I need a couple of measurments. I bought mine without the chute control rod (the long rod with handle that turns the chute) and the rod gaurd (the small rod coming up from the side of the thrower that has a small eye-let bent in the end for the chute control rod to go through) I'm looking for the total length of the long rod from the coupling to the handle and the total length of the small rod from end to end. The small rod should pull out from its slot to get a total length or just eyeball it. Also the inside diameter of the eye-let would be great. I have bought the 3/8" rod and a new u-joint and plan to make my own with a improved handle. Will post pictures as soon as completed. Thanks for any help with these measurments.

The length of the handle is 32.5 inches from the end of the rod to the front of the handle. As far as the chute angle rod holder, it is 17 - 18 inches long. As the owner of a 782 and a QA-42A, I will tell you that the factory rod holder will touch the sheet metal on your 782. I would recommend making a custom eyelet for your combination - that's what I'm planning to do.

Thanks for the measurments and the heads-up on the rod holder . Can you tell me the size of hole the use for the eye-let on the rod holder. Is it a tight fit or loose?

It is a loose fit - about 1" ID.

The pictures of the chute control rod are show and posted by bsyprit (sp) in my thread about the restoration of a QA42. Hope that helps. I think I will try to make a custom handle from some 3/8 o.d. stainless tubing.
I will try to take a picture of the rod (holder and the eye dimensions too. Regards, Chris

Matt is correct that is a slightly different set up than a narrow frame.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
