I have a couple of extra mule drives for my 2284 that are bent and I was thinking about making a suitcase weight bracket for the front of my tractor. I would only use it when the deck is off for plowing/grading and such. Anybody done this kind of set up or suggestions on whether it will work.

Google "cub cadet weight bracket" and see what you come with. There are lots of pics from here and other forums. You could search for wide frame too.

Ive made two weight brackets for my tractors. Built on for the 1811 i used to have and one for my 1450 resto-mod. The bracket i made for the 1811 could be used along with the mule drive, doubled as a bumper, and bolted into the stock holes in the frame.
The bracket i made for the 1450 was made out of spare steel i had laying around and a home made lower 3pt hitch bracket that didnt work with my equipment. It bolts on using the lower grille bolt locations with a support brace that hooks under the frame and can be used also with the mule drive attached, more pics and info can be found about this bracket in the IH section with my thread IH 1450 resto. Hope this helps! ![]()

I added 8 extra holes in case I ever wanted to add some future use attachment.
D7K_0765.jpg The 1/2" thick bracket alone adds enough weight for most uses. It also makes a great bumper!! |

I really like set up on the 1410. I see that I can buy brackets for about $70. I was hoping to recycle parts to keep costs down but since I don't have access to a welder or cutting tools buying pre made maybe cheaper. Either way I think I'll try to go the direction of a bolted on mount like your set up on the 1410.

I made a bracket for my 1812 because of the boom i made on the back. It is made out of 1/4 flat stock and one peice of 1/8 for support brace. It attachs to factory bolt like the undercarrige bolt on the side of the frame and and bolts into two holes in the fram near the front.006.jpg

Great info so far and this has given me a lot of ideas. What I want to do is actually make the bracket out of the old mule drives instead of fresh steel. I made some drawings last night at work and I'll try to post them later. I don't have a welder or access to scrap steel so I have to pay a machine shop to build everything and that is expensive. If I can recycle old parts and keep fabrication to a minimum I can budget in the weights and bracket. For comparison I can buy a new bracket for $70 plus shipping.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
