I am trying to help my uncle work on his JD 212. ( I know... off brand, but I can't convert him. LOL) anyhow, his 212 which has a kohler 12 horse engine was idleing well. He throttled it up and it ran a few seconds then backfired. It shutoff when it did that. He tried to restart it and it wouldn't run. A half hour later it started and will idle all day long, but when you throttle it up, if seems to flood out and backfire. The carb was rebuilt a year ago and worked great. He took it off and had it checked and it is fine. What else should we look for? It seems to have lots of spark. Thanks, Jason

Throw a different coil on there if you have a spare and see if that does it. Coils can work even when they go bad until they get hot. Let it cool and it restarts. Possibly condenser too but my first guess would be coil.

Sounds like a bad condenser to me.
I have seen cars do the same thing, back when they still had points and condensers. I've seen one run without a condenser at all, idled fine just wouldn't rev up. Cadet Farmer ![]() |

Ok, Thanks to all. I call my Uncle and he is goine to get those 2 parts tomorrow and try them. I'll let you know how he makes out!!!! Thanks again, Jason
