Steve,
Real nice 149 you have there! I think you have the order of work about right. I do that then get side tracked onto something else ![]() Hey that 125 looks nice too. I should go look at that 125 near me. I need another tractor like a hole in the head! I think it has some implements too. On the valve buttons. I sprayed mine down several times with blaster. Then used a strong magnet to pull them up and then pushed them back down many many times to loose them up. Regards, Chris

Glad to see you were able to pick up the 149. Looks to be in pretty decent shape. Once you get all the bugs worked out, it'll be a nice tractor for you. I love my 149, especially because of the hydraulic lift. Congrats!

I got it running today. All it took was a battery and some gas in the tank. I have to install the choke cable that I bought today and the idle seems too fast, but it does run with no bad noises or smoke. I even got it to drive a bit. I think the hydro release valves still need some attention and it needs fresh Hytran and filter. I am feeling pretty good about this machine now. PTO will need some attention too, but I'll check around on the site before I start another thread about that.

I took it for a ride around the block yesterday. I changed the hydro fluid and replaced the filter. It is pretty good now. The tires hold air, it runs, it drives, the hydro lift works, the steering is tight, headlights are good, but it needs one tail light replaced, and it needs a bath. I vacuumed a huge nest out of the cooling fan and the engine cover. I am pretty happy about this machine. I was pretty sure I would get it running ok easily, but I was also afraid I had wasted $275. I got a good deal on this one.

The guys I bought it from were selling it as a parts tractor. They were both small engine / outdoor equipment repair guys, but obviously, neither of them knew much about IH Cub Cadets. If they did, they could have put up the few bucks for fluid and filter and easily sold it for twice as much. I guess they didn't realize just how well built these old machines are. They both told me that they work on the new stuff, and didn't want to bother with the old stuff. Oh well, good for me.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
