Default Tire size's, What Tape are they using to Measure a Tire!!??

OK, I give up! What tape measure do they use to measure tires?

I ordered these 18x7.50x8 tires to use on either a Gravely 2 wheel tractor or a Cub Cadet Super GT.

DSC_0003524x640.jpg

The tires are as tall as a 18x8.50x8, but, the IDENTICAL width as a 16x6.50x8.

The wheels they came mounted on are the identical width as the Cub Cadet wheel for the 16x6.50x8.

I thought the middle number is the tread width!!??

The new tires are Carlisle Turf Savers and I only compared them to Carlisle Turf Savers.

All one brand, I would think one manufacturer would keep the numbers in order.

Anyone else baffled by tire sizing??

We run into this all the time with mud tires for trucks. A company will advertize that the tire is say 44-16.50-16. Then when you look at the specs for the tire it will say the (contact patch) is only say 14.50.
Most tire companies measure to the widest point when mounted on the suggested rim width.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
