Default Tiller gear box. How much and where?

So. Still haven't even unloaded my 122 from the truck and I'm getting in deep.

Already bought a three point sleeve hitch this morning for $100...and so it begins.

Found a 1A tiller (with tine extensions) and the long belt...but it didn't look like there was any gearbox with it. How hard are those to find? I saw one recently went for $80 on flea-bay. Is that what I can expect? Any other place I should start looking?

amccune,
Great that you picking up some good cubs items already! I think your in the ball park for price fror the used gear box. I really didnt shop much but paid just a little more than that for one along with a good mounting bracket and spare bonus gear case.
Yea your getting in deep
Regards,
Chris

You'll need both the angle drive gearbox and the mount

I would also suggest find a spring assist since the tiller is a bit heavy.
Left side is the IH spring assist for narrow frames. Right side is the Brinly spring assist for narrow frames.

Manual transmission NF can use both ( I have both on my 122 ) while only the IH can be used on hydro models due to lack of space in between the hydro unit and the outer fender upright.

Awesome. Thanks for the pic. You guys are always on top of it.

So, by the mount, you mean the part that hooks directly to the sleeve hitch? As in, the mount on the gear box? Didn't realize it could come without it.

So, for the right price, the tiller is definitely worth it then. The guy is literally a few miles from me and said he didn't want to sell anything until spring, but promised me the tiller.

He has a ton of tractors, so I'm going to see what else he might have lurking. I almost bought a Massey Ferguson 12 horse from him a few months ago.

At any rate, I've got a friend coming over tomorrow, and our task is to (finally) unload the tractor. After that, I'm going to make the beast run again.

...........
The mount is what the gearbox is bolted to. It is secured with five bolts thru the rear cover into the rear end. ( use longer ones that the ones you take out )

click for bigger

This is the back of the mount ( upside down ). Notice the five holes in a "U" pattern. That secures the mount to the tractor.

Or buy the second cheaper, sell it and lower the cost of the first one.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
