Default 18 hp command whats it worth

Im looking at buying another 18 hp command out of an 1864 it has around 800 hrs on it. It runs good and comes with exhaust, exhaust shields, engine mounting plate, drive shaft, PTO clutch, and wiring harness. It is currently still in the tractor so will be able to hear it run and possibly drive it. The owner is asking $400.00 for it does this seem like a fair price? Thanks for any help.

For Illinois, that's a bit much...I paid about $300 for a running 2185 with a CH18 that had about 400 hours on it. Rough-looking 2000 series tractors with that engine routinely go for less than $400.

Thanks for the reply Matt I will see if I can talk him down some I would really like to have the exhaust system and heat shields from this for my 582 swap I think I can modify the outlet of the muffler to fit the 82 series grill fairly easy.

The exhaust should work just fine in the 82. It exits in the same place as the Briggs in a 1641 and all I had to do is cut one bar on the grill when I did my swap into my 1210. What's wrong with the 1864 that the owner wants to sell the engine?

The guy that has this parts alot of tractors out he's really big into the 82 series tractors he takes the power steering off the 1862/1864 tractors and adapts them on the supers and GT's that did not come with power steering. This 1864 has had all the plastic busted on it and I think he would rather put the parts towards the supers and GT's he builds than fix this one. Nice looking 1210 do you still have the original kohler engine mounts that came out of this? If so I might be inerested in them if you would want to sell them.

Wally

I sold the engine mount to Cub-N-It don't know if he's going to use it or not. As some of the others have said you can pick up Kohler & Briggs engines out of 2000 series tractors for $200 - $300 I just picked up a 2185 that I was going to part out but changed my mind. So now I'm fixing it up. Should make someone a decent cheap lawn mower. It's the one in the "Organ Donor" thread.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
